Raw linen yarn
I took a 100% raw linen yarn in spools for testing. The yarn has the color of natural linen. Slightly stiff. These are the properties of linen before processing.
I made 3 samples on a Brother KH840 knitting machine, gauge class 5, needle spacing 4.5 mm. Each sample is 40 needles wide.
Sample 1 of linen yarn
Linen yarn with 3 threads. I started with a 1×1 rib. I set the first row of the carriage to 0/0. Then I changed the carriage settings: top 5/bottom 5. I made a few rows. At this density, the machine carriage moves with little effort. I moved the stitches from the lower plate to the upper one. I tried to make a regular stitch with the same carriage settings 5.
The machine carriage moves with greater effort. I changed the settings to 8, then 10. The sample is slightly stiff to the touch. Thickness 2 mm. It cuts a little.

Sample 2 of linen yarn
Yarn in 2 strands. Carriage settings 7-8. Carriage moves easily. Sample made of linen yarn is soft to the touch. Thickness 1 mm. Cuts a little.
After soaking, the linen yarn sample shrinks and becomes stiffer.

After the yarn dries, it becomes soft. It does not cut

Sample 3 openwork from linen yarn
Yarn in 2 strands. 18G card. I mounted a knitting needle with a thin thread on the machine. Carriage settings 7 or 8. The carriage moves easily. The openwork carriage of the eyelet does not drop. The sample is soft to the touch. It is 1 mm thick. It does not cut.

After washing (after soaking) the sample shrinks. It becomes denser and stiffer

After drying, the linen yarn sample became soft and did not shed.
